Hello!

Hello, money-saving-minded friends!

I'm sorry this blog has been dormant for the past month or so. The summer has gotten away from me! I will be back in action soon, so feel free to keep checking back.

I appreciate you all! (both of you)

S-t-r-e-t-c-h those dollars at Dollar General!

Friends, I wrote in an earlier post about how I have rediscovered Dollar General. Well, I am here to tell you again that if you aren't shopping here, you should be.

Yesterday I went in armed with my coupon order that recently arrived in the mail. I found Cover Girl mascara for $4, but I had a $1 coupon, bringing it to $3. I also purchased some Lysol wipes with a $1.50 coupon for a total of $1.50, and some Solo plastic cups (30-ct.) for $1.25 after $.75 coupon. I also got a small bag of Pedigree dog food for less than $5, some greeting cards for $.50, and some coordinating paper party supplies.

Later in the day I found myself at Randalls for a quick milk and movie (redbox) run. Out of curiosity, I looked for a couple of those same items that I had purchased earlier at Dollar General. The mascara? Around $7, "on sale". The Lysol wipes? $3.50. By buying the things I did -- all things I needed, mind you -- at Dollar General rather than Randalls, I saved somewhere between $10 and $15.

Now, don't get me wrong, I certainly frequent Randalls regularly and score some amazing deals -- like yesterday's $.99 Starbucks ice cream (after $2 coupon). But I'm certainly not going to spend $7 for something I can get for $3 at a place that is convenient to my house and that takes coupons. Why in the world would I?
